Gozitan businesses experience good festive period - Ministry for GozoThe Ministry for Gozo, in a statement today, has said the festive period in Gozo “has been good for businesses on the island.”

It said that according to statistics provided by Gozo Channel, during December up to the 7th of January, altogether 464,837 passengers and 141,349 vehicles crossed between the two islands, compared to 438,001 passengers and 135,921 vehicles in the same period of 2016/17.

The Ministry for Gozo said that this was an increase of 6% in passengers and 4% in vehicles with the busiest day for passengers and vehicles being Boxing Day, the 26th of December, when 22,586 passengers and 5,517 vehicles crossed the channel.

It added that, this influx of foreign and domestic tourists provided a boost in trade for the various Gozitan tourist establishments, this was again reiterated to the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana during visits to several local businesses and retail outlets.

She remarked that restaurant owners were also pleased with the increased business over this holiday period, and had expressed praise for the organised programme of events that had taken place all across Gozo.

This increase in tourists to Gozo was due to many factors, the Minister explained, not least the large number of activities associated with the festive period, organised for all ages in the Christmas in Gozo programme.

Dr Caruana concluded by saying that, “this positive trend confirms the work of the Ministry to ensure that Gozo becomes a unique attraction is now bearing fruit.”
