The nephew of serial killers Rose and Fred West has been convicted of kidnapping and raping a 12-year-old girl.

Steven Letts, 38, abducted the child after she asked him for a cigarette on the street.

The girl, who lives in care, was with her support worker at the time, who warned Letts she was underage.

Letts plied the 12-year-old with apple-flavoured vodka, cannabis and cocaine.

He pleaded not guilty to abducting the girl on 6 March and raping her between then and 8 March. He was found guilty of both counts at Gloucester Crown Court.

The rape was revealed when the girl asked a social worker "how long it would take to find out if you are pregnant", The Mirror reported.

The girl said in a statement "it went from cuddling to just like too far".

The court heard the child "started to hurt" and wanted Letts to stop, but she felt guilty about asking because he earlier gave her alcohol and drugs.

Letts is the estranged son of West's brother. West remains in HMP Low Newton, Brasside, Durham.

West was convicted in 1995 of murdering ten girls and young women, including her daughter and stepdaughter.

Her husband Fred West confessed to 11 of the 12 murders with which he was charged. He committed suicide in his cell at Winson Green Prison, Birmingham, on New Year's Day.
